Description:
This book documents the rich array of caves and other sandstone spaces found in and around Blackheath in New South Wales. The book contains 198 pages, with 355 photos and eighteen maps. It consists of eleven chapters documenting fifty-three caves. There are also additional chapters dealing with natural bridges, tunnels, arches and windows, canyons, chockstones, tafoni and ironstone. Some of the many sandstone culverts in the area are also considered. The final chapter gives historic notes on important people in the Blackheath cave story including Bertie Boyce, Lorna Stoddart, Ignatius Wall and John Neate. Historic caves, including Walls Cave and Mermaids Cave, both of which date back at least to the 1890s are covered. A recent discovery, Hat Hill Cavern, only documented in 2020, is included as well. The contents of the book are supported with 115 notes, copious references and an extensive index.
