The Journal of the Sydney Speleological Society (JSSS) is a monthly publication produced by our members. As of April 2026, more than 840 editions have been published across 70 volumes. Each issue offers a diverse mix of caving articles, trip reports, maps, surveys, and Society news, showcasing the depth and breadth of speleology in New South Wales and beyond.
Published continuously for over 50 years, the JSSS stands as one of the longest‑running speleological journals in Australia—outlasting many commercial publications. It remains our primary means of communication with members and an important reference for the wider caving community.

The Journal is available for purchase through our online shop, including all back issues. A small fee applies to these editions to help offset the significant costs involved in preserving, digitising, and making our archival material accessible to the caving community.

JSSS - subscription
Since 2018, the Journal of the Sydney Speleological Society has been delivered to members electronically. This shift has significantly reduced printing and postage costs, though there are still expenses involved in producing each issue. Non‑members are welcome to subscribe to the JSSS without joining the Society. Even better, by becoming an SSS member you’ll receive the Journal each month at no additional cost, along with full access to all official SSS trips, functions, and events.
JSSS Back Issues
The Journal of the Sydney Speleological Society is a cornerstone of our Society’s heritage, providing a continuous and well‑documented record of our activities and discoveries dating back to the early years of the SSS.
The JSSS is no longer produced in printed form; all issues are now published and supplied as PDF files. All back issues are available in this digital format. A small fee applies to these editions, as considerable time and resources are required to preserve, prepare, and make our archival material accessible.
